The writing phase of our Illustration contest is now over. We've had 8 wonderful entries, which you can read here: supernaturalobsessed.deviantar….

The winners will be announced latest on the 19th of September, I recommend the drawers who want to participate in the contest to wait for the winners, because only the illustrations to the winning stories will be subject of the contest.

On September 20th the drawing round will start. (This is when the contest folder will open again.)

After the winning stories are announced, the other stories will be moved to the fanfiction folder. Every drawer is welcome to illustrate one of those just for fun. Just don't forget to mention that it's an illustration and add a link to the story. And notify the author, he or she will be probably thrilled about an illustration of his or her work.

SPN Illustration Contest! It is on!


Hello dear Members, Hunters, Angels, Archangels and Chuck!

As promised, after a long time of planning and thinking, here comes the Illustration Contest. The idea of this contest was born out of the thought, that there should be something, that considers both our writers and drawers equally. And here is the solution, an illustration contest. It's divided into 2 phases, one for the writers and one for the drawers.

You have to be a member of the SupernaturalObsessed group or one of our Affiliates (all Affiliates visible on starting page of our group)
You can join any phase of the contest, no matter if you're most of the time a writer or drawer.
You can submit more than one entry to both phases, but only one entry of yours from the whole contest can win.
You can't illustrate your own story.

Following information is for writers and drawers equally:

The description of your entry (the story or picture) must contain:
- A DISCLAIMER
- A NOTICE THAT IT'S FOR THIS CONTEST
- A LINK TO THE CONTEST JOURNAL
- AND DON'T FORGET THE DISCLAIMER

HOW IT WORKS

Phase One - Storywriting

The task: Write a short story that can be illustrated afterwards
Conditions: Any theme you want, use good descriptions, be creative
                                            Keep it in the original Supernatural universe.
                                            Your OTP's/ own ships are allowed (Destiel, Sabriel, Wincest, whatever pleases your creative mind)

Beginning: 15. August 2013
Ending: 15. September 2013

Minimum of words: 300
Maximum of words: 1000

In phase one your task is to write a short story. You can choose the topic and write about anything you want under one condition. Use a lot of descriptive language, because when the three writing winners are chosen, in Phase Two others will draw illustrations to the stories.
So basically you write a story, maybe it's a fighting scene or an emotional conversation or scene, maybe it's even a love scene (yes, you can write about your OTP/favourite shipping, you don't have to stick to the real show pairings), but keep in mind that in the end somebody will have to illustrate it. Of course you don't have to stick to only one scene and place, it's still a short story and you design it as you want. But just remember to describe the people, the surroundings, maybe what they are wearing or what their surroundings looks like, what time of day is it, which season. Be creative! Write something you can picture in your head, something you'd want to see illustrated.





Phase Two - Illustrating

The task: Draw an illustration to one of the winning stories
Conditions: You can illustrate whatever you want from the story you chose
                                            Stick to the author's descriptions
                                             Make the illustration as good as you can, pay attention to the details in the story
                                             Visual artists of all skill levels are welcome
                                             Your work will be judged by your effort and idea, not your skill
                                           

Beginning: 20. September 2013
Ending: 20. November 2013

Additionally you have to write into the description of your picture which short story your illustration was made for, who wrote it and include a link to the story
Only illustrations submitted starting from September 20th will be accepted as contest entries

In Phase two you choose one of the winning stories and draw an illustration to it. If it's a longer story which contains several scenes that offer enough info for an illustration, it's up to you to choose. Also your illustration doesn't have to represent the whole story, you choose whatever you liked best in it. When you upload your illustration, don't forget to add a commentary. The commentary should explain what you had in mind and which scene of the story your pic relates to, unless it's totally obvious. Artists of all skill levels are welcome to join, what counts is your idea and your effort. You don't have to be super good, but it's definetely a minus if you don't bother to colour something properly or don't even try to draw a background or some surroundings. Rely on the author's descriptions, it reduces your winning chances a lot, if you give a character clothes which differ completely from what the author has explicitly described. If you want to include into your illustration something that the author hasn't described at all, then free the stage for your creativity. But see that it fits to the story and the Supernatural universe. There are no living dinosaurs in the SPN world, unless the author has written a story about Sam, Dean and Cas being transported to the Mesozoic Time.
